Findlay Publishing in Administration

Update: Bob Findlay Chairman has purchased the trade and assets of the business and rebirthed as Findlay Media. Business as usual apparently.

Perhaps the first Oh My God moment of the year, Findlay Publications has gone into administration. Findlay has been the doyen of manufacturing and engineering publishing for more than thirty years. It led the way in the UK with sophisiticated controlled circulation publishing. Founder, Bob, retired just a couple of years ago keeping his ownership of stately Franks Hall which used to be the main office.

Moles tell me that the business will or is likely to emerge from administration in some form. Any news gratefully received either in comment or by email at libertyskyline@hotmail.com

Is this a failure of innovation, the demise of manufacturing, lack of investment in people and new digital products, or just rotten bad luck?

Crikey.

Findlay Media

I'm afraid the first Oh My God moment will have to wait. Though Findlay Publications has gone into administration the majority of its products, trade and assets continue as normal.

From January 2009, Findlay Media Limited (FM) is the new name for the company that purchased the trade and assets of the Findlay Publications Group. Staff, offices and operations continue as before, refinanced by chairman Bob Findlay and chief executive Peter Knutton, with fellow directors Ed Tranter and Jon Baker.

The truth of the matter is that it is not due to a lack of investment, the demise of manufacturing or lack of new digital products, the issue can be summed up in four words....final salary pension scheme.

Our sophisticated controlled circulation remains in place and we are working towards significant product development particularly in digital throughout 2009.

Regards,

E
